CAL-PAC
RENEWAL
Statement of Faith and Mission
WHO ARE WE?
We affirm the doctrinal standards of the UM Book of Discipline and the
summary of the Faith as expressed in the ancient creeds. We believe that
the entire Bible, Old Testament and New, is the triune God’s timeless
and trustworthy revelation to humanity. We believe its central message
is the Gospel of Jesus Christ; that God the Son became a man, lived a
perfect life, and then laid that life down on our behalf. We believe
that Jesus Christ and His shed blood is the only remedy for mankind’s
sin and therefore the only Door to Heaven. His resurrection from the
dead was triumph over Hell, the evidence and guarantee of Life Eternal
to everyone who has been reborn by faith in that Name.
Therefore, we believe that the preaching of this Good News to the lost
and the making of disciples obedient to His commands is the most
important thing we are to do — and the greatest love that we can show
others — because it is the pathway by which the Savior is known and
eternal life, the real prize, is secured and held fast. We also believe
that to be effective in this pursuit we must be rich in good works as
our founding father John Wesley exhorted, “Do all the good you can, By
all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you
can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as
ever you can”.
Our conference is in decline. We have been losing members at an alarming
rate. We believe that a renewal of our Wesleyan heritage’s emphasis on
fiery evangelism, heartfelt worship, and Biblical fidelity — with much
prayer and kindness — will not only stop the hemorrhaging but reverse
the decline altogether. We long to be pleasing to Him, to grow our
churches, and to see the Holy Spirit fall in power upon Cal-Pac. This is
our hope, our prayer, and who we are.
AFFIRMATION
We of CPR affirm our Wesleyan heritage as being a people of “One Book
1 ”, for “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for training
in righteousness that the [follower] of God may be complete, thoroughly
equipped for every good work. (2Timothy 3:16-17).
PROCLAMATION
“Offer them Christ!” (John Wesley)“ “For there is no other Name under
heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved!” (Acts 4:12)
MOTTO
“Growing our churches — Renewing our Conference”
VISION
We see Cal-Pac glorifying Christ, honoring His Word, and worshiping Him
in growing numbers.
MISSION
We will unite the voices of likeminded Cal-Pac clergy and laity for the
purpose of renewing our conference— its shepherds and their flocks — in
a deeper reliance upon the full Word of God, in the experience of a more
intimate walk with the Savior, in a more determined effort to reach the
Lost with the Gospel, and in the growth of conference membership.
1 “I want to know one thing: the way to heaven—how to land
safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way;
for this very end He came from heaven. He has written it down in a book.
Oh give me that book! At any price give me the book of God! I have
it—here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book!” (John
Wesley)
